Subaru is revving up its electric ambitions with the global unveiling of the all-new 2026 Subaru Trailseeker EV, set to make its debut at the 2025 New York International Auto Show this week. Positioned as a more compact, electric sibling to the Solterra SUV, the Trailseeker is being pitched as the brand’s next “adventure-ready sidekick.”

Here at Tynan Subaru, we’re watching this exciting reveal closely, as the Trailseeker could soon be a key part of our future electric vehicle range.

What We Know So Far

Subaru has teased the Trailseeker with a single image and a short but bold statement: “Get ready to meet your newest adventure-ready sidekick from Subaru: the all-new 2026 Subaru Trailseeker EV SUV.”

While full specs are still under wraps, here’s what’s currently known (or speculated) about the Trailseeker:

  • Built on the same electric platform as Toyota’s upcoming compact EV, continuing the collaborative success of the Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X.
  • Unique Subaru styling and interior elements to set it apart from its Toyota counterpart.
  • Displayed alongside the new Subaru Outback at the New York show, with both models drawing global attention.

Production is set to begin in January 2026 at Subaru’s Yajima plant in Japan, with up to 20,000 units per month planned. Given Subaru’s global strategy, the Trailseeker is expected to be available in Japan, Europe, and the US, making an Australian release highly likely.

Subaru’s Growing EV Vision

Subaru Australia’s general manager, Scott Lawrence, has confirmed that the Trailseeker forms part of a wider push to grow the brand’s electric range:

“Solterra’s our first foray into the EV space… We have good ambitions for future EVs. Subaru Corporation will have eight EVs by 2028,” he told CarExpert.

The Trailseeker will be only the second EV from Subaru, but its arrival marks the beginning of an aggressive rollout, with six more EVs expected to follow in the next three years.
